⚡ Quick Answer

The Kedarkantha trek cost with Global Events Travels is ₹7,500 + 5% GST, or ₹7,875 per person, Dehradun to Dehradun. That covers transfers, the Sankri guest house, three tent nights, all trek meals, crampons, Govind National Park entry and a certified guide. From Delhi, add ₹350–₹2,150 for return train or bus fares, plus roadside meals and optional rentals. Call +91 96000 36667.

Three Quotes, Three Prices, and No Way to Compare Them

You've asked around. One WhatsApp quote says ₹6,499. Another says ₹7,500. A third says ₹9,000 "plus ₹2,000 cab". They all show the same summit photo. They all say "all inclusive". So which one is cheapest?

Nobody can tell from a single number. One price includes the Dehradun drive, another doesn't. One includes crampons, another rents them at Sankri. Most cost guides make it worse by quoting an old ₹150 park permit. The Govind National Park's own tariff page now lists ₹200 for Indians.

This guide breaks India's most popular Himalayan winter trek into every line item: permits, guide, transport, stays, food, gear and the extras that never make the brochure. You'll see our price item by item. You'll also see what each item costs if you arrange it yourself. Then you can compare any quote in two minutes.

"The cheapest Kedarkantha quote is the one with the fewest things left out, not the smallest number."

Budget for Insurance and a Medical Certificate Now

Uttarakhand is drafting its first comprehensive trekking rules. According to Hindustan Times, the draft would require every trekker to get a medical certificate. ETV Bharat reports that trekkers would also need to submit insurance. The framework is still under consultation. Getting both before a winter trek is wise either way.

Kedarkantha Trek Cost Comparison

Can You Do Kedarkantha Cheaper on Your Own?

Sometimes, but rarely in winter. The park rules require a registered guide, so DIY never means "free". Here's what a self-organised trip has to cover.

  • Guide: about ₹1,200–₹2,200 a day for four trek days (est.). Split across four people, that's still ₹1,200–₹2,200 each.

  • Transport: a shared taxi seat both ways adds about ₹1,400–₹2,400 (est.).

  • Permits and tent fees: ₹250 entry plus tent-pitching fees and a refundable deposit, per the official tariff.

  • Gear: winter tents, sub-zero sleeping bags, mats and crampons, rented and carried.

  • Food: rations, fuel and a stove, or a cook.

Our view, after years of running Himalayan treks: with fewer than six people, DIY rarely beats ₹7,875 once you add winter gear and food logistics. Large, experienced groups with their own kit can save money. First-timers usually spend more and enjoy it less.

When to Book, and When Not to Go

  • December–March is the snow season on our Kedarkantha trek page. Late December and January are the busiest weeks.

  • Snow isn't guaranteed on fixed dates. Last winter, Kedarkantha had no snow over New Year 2026. When it finally fell in late January, more than 2,000 tourists reached the Sankri and Saur base camps within days, according to Dainik Jagran.

  • Book trains early. Indian Railways bookings open 60 days ahead (IRCTC), so Christmas-week seats go first.

  • Don't forget the exam calendar if you're a student. See our winter treks for students guide.

Safety Is Part of the Cost

  • Altitude sickness (AMS): the Kedarkantha summit is 3,810 m, above the 3,500 m mark where AMS risk rises. Base camp sits just below it, at about 3,429 m. Tell your guide straight away about headache, nausea or breathlessness at rest.

  • Crampons matter: like most Himalayan snow summits, the final slope is often hard snow before sunrise. That's why we include crampons rather than renting them out.

  • Weather windows change: snow can delay a summit day or block the road to Sankri. We reconfirm conditions before every batch.

  • Fitness: the trek stays below 4,000 m, but a basic health check before any winter trek is sensible. Start walking 30–45 minutes a day, three weeks before you go.
