The Valley of Flowers trek brings you through bright grass fields in Uttarakhand state. This UNESCO site bursts with life as countless bloom types fill the land each year. Your path begins at Govindghat and moves you up through Ghangaria village next.

Easy paths wind through red, gold, pink, and white petals on all sides now. White peaks rise high behind you while small streams cut through these fields. The Valley of Flowers trek suits groups with kids and first time hikers well.

Haridwar/Rishikesh to Govindghat

Travel Time: 10-11 hours

Start your journey early morning from Haridwar. Drive through Rishikesh, Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, and Joshimath to reach Govindghat. The route offers scenic views of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers. Check into your hotel or guesthouse in Govindghat. Rest and prepare for the trek ahead. Overnight stay at Govindghat.

Govindghat to Ghangaria

Trek Duration: 6-7 hours

Begin trekking from Govindghat after breakfast. The trail follows the Lakshman Ganga river through dense forests and small villages. Pass through Pulna village, the last motorable point. Continue uphill through a mix of steep and moderate sections. You will see several waterfalls along the way. Reach Ghangaria by evening, which serves as the base camp for Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. Check into a guesthouse or lodge. Overnight stay at Ghangaria.

Ghangaria to Valley of Flowers and back

Trek Duration: 6-7 hours

Start early morning after breakfast for the Valley of Flowers. The trek is moderate with gradual ascents. Enter the valley after a 5-kilometer hike from Ghangaria. Spend 3-4 hours exploring the valley filled with colorful alpine flowers. See species like blue poppies, brahma kamal, cobra lily, and primulas. Snow-capped peaks surround the valley offering stunning views. Return to Ghangaria by evening. Overnight stay at Ghangaria.

Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib and back

Trek Duration: 7-8 hours

This is an optional but recommended visit to Hemkund Sahib. Start early morning as this trek is steeper than Valley of Flowers. The path climbs steadily through rocky terrain and snow patches. Reach the sacred Sikh shrine of Hemkund Sahib situated beside a glacial lake. Seven mountain peaks surround this holy site. Pay your respects at the gurudwara and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Descend back to Ghangaria by evening. Overnight stay at Ghangaria.

Trek Duration: 4-5 hours

Begin your descent after breakfast. The downhill trek is easier and faster than the climb up. Follow the same route back along the Lakshman Ganga river. Reach Govindghat by afternoon. Check into your hotel and rest. You can explore the local market in the evening. Overnight stay at Govindghat.
