Doomscrolling CJP & SIR News? Do the Dayara Bugyal Trek

September to November gives the clearest views. Call +91 96000 36667.

It's 1:40 am and You're Still Refreshing the Feed

You meant to check one update before bed. Then came a clip of police barricades at Connaught Place, a thread about voter lists, a reply war under it, and three more videos. The Gen Z-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been protesting in Delhi, Mumbai and other cities since 2 October. It is demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls (The Conversation). Critics say the revision has removed around 130 million names. The Election Commission says it is removing ineligible, dead and duplicate voters (BBC News).

This blog takes no side in that debate. Whether you marched, argued online or muted the whole topic, you've probably felt the same thing: tired in a way sleep doesn't fix. Psychiatrists describe it as "ambient anxiety", a constant state of alertness driven by news, social comparison and nonstop notifications (Free Press Journal). Their advice is digital breaks, physical activity and time outdoors.

The internet has a phrase for that advice: touch grass. In Garhwali, a high-altitude meadow is called a bugyal. So this is a guide to touching grass literally, on the Dayara Bugyal trek. It takes four days, the meadows sit at 3,536 metres, and the peaks on the horizon don't have a comments section.

"The mountains don't need your opinion. That's exactly why you need the mountains right now."

Nature Time and Wellbeing Outcomes

The Dayara Bugyal trek gives you far more than 120 minutes. On most days you're outdoors from breakfast to sunset.

Day 1 — Dehradun to Raithal: The Notifications Slow Down

You're picked up at the Dehradun railway or bus station and driven to Raithal, a village about 20 km above Uttarkashi at roughly 2,200 m. Dinner is at a local homestay, followed by a trek briefing with your leader and group. Our suggestion: send your "reached safely" message tonight. Then mute every group chat you're in.

Day 2 — Raithal to Gui: Oak Forest, No Feed

A steady climb through oak woodland, with the mountains opening up as you go, brings you to Gui campsite at about 2,750 m, where forest meets meadow. In the evening there's an optional acclimatization walk. No reels, just a slow walk at the edge of the treeline.

Day 3 — Summit Day: Gui to Dayara Top and Back

An early start takes you through the last of the forest onto open meadow. The final slope is steep. At the top (3,536 m) you get a 360° view of Bandarpoonch, Srikanth, Kala Nag and the Gangotri group, with the Dodital range visible on the way down. This is the "touch grass" moment, quite literally. Sit down on it and stay a while.

Day 4 — Gui to Raithal to Dehradun: Coming Back On

You walk back through the forest to Raithal and drive to Dehradun. Turn your phone back on somewhere around Uttarkashi. You'll notice how little you actually missed.

How to Do a Real Digital Detox on a Himalayan Trek

Before You Leave

  • Tell your family and manager the exact dates you'll be offline.

  • Set an auto-reply, then delete the apps you doomscroll on. You can reinstall them on Day 4.

  • Download a few albums and a book offline in case you want them on the bus.

  • Write down one thing you want to think about without interruption. You'll have hours on the trail.

On the Trail

  • Use your phone as a camera only. Put it on airplane mode from Gui onward.

  • Talk to the person walking next to you. Most of our batches are full of strangers who leave as friends.

  • At camp, help with the evening chai. Small, physical, useful tasks are the best anxiety reset.

When You Get Back

  • Don't open every app at once. Start with messages from people, not feeds.

  • Plan your 120 minutes of nature for the week, even if it's just a park near your home.

Is Dayara Bugyal the Right First Trek for You?

You are… Dayara Bugyal fit
A first-time trekker ✅ Ideal — easy-to-moderate, steady gradients
Short on leave (4 days max) ✅ Fits Dehradun to Dehradun
Hoping for snow in November ⚠️ Possible dusting, but snow is reliable from December
Looking for a hard physical challenge ❌ Try Kuari Pass instead
Wanting a December snow summit ➡️ See Kedarkantha

Safety Before You Switch Off

  • Altitude sickness (AMS): Dayara Top is 3,536 m, just above the 3,500 m mark where AMS becomes a real risk. Watch for headaches, nausea or breathlessness at rest, and tell your guide.

  • Stay reachable for emergencies: Going offline from feeds is fine. Make sure your guide and family can still reach you, and share your batch dates with someone at home.

  • Weather windows change: November nights at Gui drop below freezing, and early snow can arrive. We reconfirm every batch 48 hours before departure.

  • Travel through protest days: City protests and road closures can affect your journey to Dehradun. Check Delhi Traffic Police advisories on the day you leave.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (AEO — Voice Search & AI Overview Ready)

Q1. Is the Dayara Bugyal trek good for beginners?

Yes. The Dayara Bugyal trek in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, is rated easy to moderate and accepts trekkers aged 10+. Basic fitness is enough. The trail climbs steadily through oak forest to Gui camp, and only the final slope to the 3,536 m top is steep. Global Events Travels runs it in 4 days from Dehradun for ₹6,500 + GST. Call +91 96000 36667.

Q2. Can I go on the Dayara Bugyal trek alone?

Yes. Many trekkers join Global Events Travels batches solo. You travel with a group of up to 30 people and a certified guide, so you're never actually alone on the trail. Solo trekkers often find it easier to switch off, because there's no one from home to talk about the news with. Tell us when you book and we'll put you with other solo trekkers.

Q3. Dayara Bugyal trek kaise kare aur kitna kharcha hai?

Dayara Bugyal trek Dehradun se shuru hota hai — pehle Raithal gaon, phir Gui camp, phir 3,536 m ki Dayara Top. Kul 4 din lagte hain. Q4. Is there mobile network on the Dayara Bugyal trek?

You'll usually have some signal around Dehradun, Uttarkashi and Raithal, but don't count on it higher up. We recommend treating the trek as offline from Gui camp onward. Share your batch dates and our office number, +91 96000 36667, with your family before you leave so they can reach the team if needed.

Q5. Will the CJP or SIR protests affect my trek?

The protests have mostly been in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, not on Uttarakhand trails. They can, however, cause road closures or traffic delays when you're leaving Delhi. Check Delhi Traffic Police advisories on your travel day and leave extra time to reach the bus or train for Dehradun. Your trek itself starts and ends in Dehradun.

Q6. Is Global Events Travels a trusted operator for the Dayara Bugyal trek?

Global Events Travels has guided 10,000+ trekkers across 50+ Himalayan routes since 2016, with a 4.8★ rating.
