The Hampta Pass With Chandratal Trek is a seven-day journey that begins in Manali, which is located in the Kullu valley, and concludes in Chatru, which is located in the Spiti valley. The path that runs from Manali to Hampta pass is an amazing adventure track since it leads to meadows and valleys that are filled with fascinating vegetation. This thrilling journey involves across a river, sleeping at campsites such as Chika and Balu ka Ghera, which are surrounded by thick forests of oak and alpine and give a breathtaking view of the valley, and then continuing on to higher altitude campsites such as Shea Gohru and Chatru, which are located in the arid and freezing deserts of Spiti national park. The journey begins in the Kullu valley, which is characterised by its diverse flora, brilliant orchids, and expansive mountain sides that are covered with Himalayan cedar.
Upon over the Hampta pass, which is situated at an elevation of 14,000 feet, one arrives to the frigid deserts of Spiti, which are often blanketed in snow from the months of October to July. There is no way to finish the journey to Hampta pass without taking a thrilling trip to Chandratal lake, which is located at a distance of two hours from Chatru, which is the final destination of the journey. In fact, the tranquil and sparkling waters of the ‘Chandrataal’ lake, which is located at an elevation of 14100 feet, are a traveler’s paradise. You will be awestruck by this lake at a high altitude, which is characterised by its beautiful and transparent water that changes hues throughout the season.
According to the difficulty scale, the journey from Manali to Hampta Pass with Chandratal Trek is categorised as easy to moderate, and it is suited for both novice and expert hikers equally. Over the course of seven days, the Hampta pass trek aims to provide participants with an exciting and exhilarating experience.
After we have finished our meal in the morning, we will begin the day’s journey with a breathtaking drive to Jobara. The trek to Chikka is scheduled to take around two to three hours to accomplish. The campground is located after passing through a short woodland section and then two wooden bridges before you arrive at the campsite. In addition to its stunning waterfall and large granite boulders, Chikka provides visitors with an unforgettable opportunity to camp along the riverbed.
The trek to Balu Ka Ghera will begin after we have finished our meal in the morning. In the beginning of the trek, you will climb a few rock boulders as you make your way through the right bank of the Hamta River. During the trek, there is a water stream that must be across, and then there is a three-hour walk to Balu Ka Ghera that must be completed. After catching your first view of the towering snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas, you will have the opportunity to experience the genuine magnificence of the Himalayas. These mountains are part of the Dhauladhar ranges, which are part of the outer Himalayan chain. Accommodation during the trek typically consists of camping in tents at designated campsites along the route. Some itineraries may also include stays in guesthouses or homestays in local villages.
Altitude sickness can be a concern, especially when crossing Hampta Pass, which reaches an altitude of approximately 14,100 feet (4,300 meters). It is essential for trekkers to acclimatize properly, stay hydrated, and be aware of the symptoms of altitude sickness.
Essential items to pack include appropriate trekking gear (such as sturdy hiking boots, warm clothing, waterproof jackets, and sleeping bags), personal medication, sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat), water bottles, snacks, and a first aid kit.
Permits are required for the Hampta Pass with Chandratal Trek, as it passes through protected areas. These permits will be arranged by us by providing necessary identification documents and paying the applicable fees. We obtain these permits in advance to avoid any inconvenience during the trek.
Mobile connectivity and internet access are limited or non-existent during the Hampta Pass with Chandratal Trek, especially in remote mountainous regions. Trekkers are advised to inform their family and friends about the limited communication options and embrace the opportunity to disconnect from technology and immerse themselves in nature.
In contrast to other treks, Hampta Pass does not have a base village. The taxi will drop you off at a town called Jobra, from where the trek begins.
On the way to the base camp, Prini has several ATMs. This is the location to take out cash if you need it on hand.
Until you return to Manali, there are no ATMs after the pass crossing.
