About This Trek

The Brahmatal Trek stands as a true winter gem in the Himalayas close to Kathgodam. This trek spans six days and leads you past dense oak woods and snow fields. You climb up to the grand Brahmatal Lake set at twelve thousand feet high. Tall white peaks rise all around this pure blue lake up here. The path gives you clear sights of Mt. Trishul and Mt. Nanda Ghunti as you walk. The cold months from December through March work best for this high route. White snow blankets the ground and trees, turning the scene into pure magic. The walk stays at a mild level, so new hikers with strong legs manage fine. You sleep in tents beneath bright stars and greet each dawn with peak views. The Brahmatal Trek blends raw wild charm with the joy of crunching through fresh powder.

Dehradun to Lohajung

Duration: 7–8 hours

Departure: 6:00 AM

Lohajung to Bekaltal

Duration: 4–5 hours

Start: 9:00 AM

Overnight: Camping at Bekaltal

Trek begins at 9:00 AM from Lohajung through the village of Mandoli. The trail ascends through ancient rhododendron and oak forests. In winter, snow-dusted branches form a canopy over the path.

As altitude increases, the first views of Mt. Nandaghunti appear above the treeline. The trail opens to meadows before arriving at Bekaltal Lake at around 9,700 ft — a quiet high-altitude lake set in a forest basin. In winter, the lake is fully frozen.

3

Bekaltal to Brahmatal via Tilandi

Duration: 4–5 hours

Overnight: Camping at Brahmatal

The trail climbs steeply from Bekaltal through forest and then open snow slopes towards Telindi Top. This wide ridge viewpoint offers the first full panorama of Mt. Trishul and Mt. Nandaghunti, standing close and clear.

From Telindi Top, the trail continues across snowy terrain to the Brahmatal campsite. Micro-spikes and gaiters are provided for icy sections. Brahmatal Lake is sacred — Lord Brahma is believed to have meditated here. In winter, it is completely frozen and set within a snow-covered amphitheatre.

Temperatures drop sharply at night — down to -10°C. Wear all thermal layers. Stargazing from this altitude is exceptional.
